HPV不是艾滋病，艾滋病是由艾滋病毒感染所引起的一種性傳播疾病，艾滋病毒的英文縮寫是HIV而不是HPV。HPV是人乳頭瘤病毒的縮寫，可以引起多種皮膚疾病，包括常見的尋常疣、長子疣、扁平疣等等，也包括作為性傳播疾病的尖銳濕疣。
尖銳濕疣是由乳頭瘤病毒感染的性傳播疾病，主要發(fā)生在外生殖器以及肛周的皮膚黏膜部位。特征性表現(xiàn)就是局部有疣狀的皮膚新生物，一般是很少進(jìn)入到人體的血液和深層的組織，所以主要是局部造成一些病變。而HIV則不然，主要是侵犯人體血液當(dāng)中的CD4陽性T淋巴細(xì)胞，可以導(dǎo)致機(jī)體免疫系統(tǒng)嚴(yán)重的受損，一般感染之后經(jīng)過數(shù)年，機(jī)體的免疫系統(tǒng)受到嚴(yán)重破壞，就會出現(xiàn)各種各樣的機(jī)會感染、惡性腫瘤，不治療最終會導(dǎo)致死亡。所以HPV引起尖銳濕疣而HIV才引起艾滋病，這兩者是完全不同的兩種病毒，不可混淆。
