臨床上一般以紅細(xì)胞平均體積，來(lái)定義紅細(xì)胞的大小。紅細(xì)胞體積的平均值，一般介于80~100fl之間。臨床上大于100fl的紅細(xì)胞體積是增大的，小于80fl的紅細(xì)胞體積是減小的，介于80~100fl叫正細(xì)胞性貧血。
在顯微鏡下，紅細(xì)胞一般6μm~10μm大小。紅細(xì)胞的主要功能是攜帶和輸送氧氣，紅細(xì)胞在肺泡中和呼入的氧氣結(jié)合，形成血氧的紅細(xì)胞，經(jīng)過(guò)左心時(shí)把這部分紅細(xì)胞泵入到動(dòng)脈中，最后進(jìn)入毛細(xì)血管，進(jìn)入組織，把氧氣輸送給組織，使組織獲得新陳代謝所需要的氧氣。
