前列腺炎指各種病因引起的前列腺組織的慢性或急性炎癥，根據(jù)病程長短可分為急性前列腺炎和慢性前列腺炎。
目前國際上主要將其分為四類：
一型急性細(xì)菌性前列腺炎，多是由于細(xì)菌感染所致，主要致病菌為大腸桿菌、肺炎克雷伯菌、變形桿菌、假單胞菌屬和金黃色葡萄球菌等。
二型慢性細(xì)菌性前列腺炎占5-8%，致病因素主要為病原體感染，病原體主要為葡萄球菌、大腸埃希桿菌、棒狀桿菌屬及腸球菌屬等。
三型非細(xì)菌性前列腺炎是多種復(fù)雜的因素和誘因引起的炎癥，以尿道刺激和慢性盆腔疼痛為主要臨床表現(xiàn)，常合并精神心理癥狀，臨床表現(xiàn)多樣，病程緩慢，遷延不愈。
四型是沒有任何臨床癥狀的前列腺炎。
