神經(jīng)衰弱這個詞最早來自西方，在美國精神疾病診斷和統(tǒng)計手冊第三版里，用焦慮癥、抑郁癥或者強(qiáng)迫癥，取代了神經(jīng)衰弱。神經(jīng)衰弱是排除了器質(zhì)性疾病之后的心理和情感障礙，可能跟患者的軀體疾病、人格特征、認(rèn)知特點、社會支持、經(jīng)濟(jì)狀況等社會心理因素有關(guān)，所以應(yīng)該進(jìn)行綜合性的治療。
癥狀比較輕的患者，可以給予健康教育和心理支持；如果患者伴有嚴(yán)重的失眠，精神癥狀比較嚴(yán)重，或者影響軀體疾病，可以采用藥物治療或者藥物聯(lián)合心理治療，建議去精神科進(jìn)行針對性的治療。
